So its all over for another year and well done to everyone that competed for Barnes Bridge including those representing the club in composite crews.
The weather, despite the forecast, was kind to us and the rain held off for the day and it was far warmer that it had been for the previous races. The fair weather enabled the catering team to set up and get that barbecue firing to meet the needs of the arriving rowers and supporters – it was also a great and varied display of cakes on show as well and I feel sure we had the best supply of gluten free cakes on the Tideway!
We had 4 crews entered in this years race and overall everyone came away having done their best outings for the race. Sadly we didn’t have any pennants this year but we did have a very close 2nd from the Masters A crew. Special mentions go to…..
(1) The catering team who raised an impressive £600
(2) The novices as it was their first time charging down the full course from Chiswick to Putney and from the look of the faces when they got back to the club they all seemed to enjoy the experience (but we might have to speak to the White Hart bar staff for the full story).
(3) Coxes – Rachel from MAA who stepped into the coxing seat for the Novices and from the sounds of it got rather into the role; Katy Owen who has spend loads of time with her crew over the last few weeks and Katy Baldwin who went hoarse from having to do the course without a cox box
