An update from Vice-Captain Sian – it’s a biggie, but worth a read with lots of important info, plus great news of pots galore at Barnes & Mortlake regatta last weekend.
BMI
Congratulations to all those who raced at BMI this weekend. We have had lots of excitement starting with the mixed 4s, where the Jam Roly Polies coxed by J came out on top by the end of the day (but not without a fight!). Our Novice 8 raced extraordinary well seeing off all of the competition in their category, and now we have 8 new seniors and a first pot to our lovely cox Anna! As well as all this we got a first sculling point for Sharon after some blue on blue (or pink and yellow) racing in the semi. Congratulations all.
Henley
This week is the event of the Regatta year – Henley Woman’s; where we have Clemmy, Cara, Abi, Sarah T and Sue representing the club. For any one able to go and watch, the time trials are on Friday from 9.30am where the fastest 16 go into the Heats between 2 and 3.15pm. When the girls get through to the next round (fingers crossed, we think you can do it!) the quarter finals are Saturday between 5.30 and 6pm. The semi and final is on Sunday starting from 1.20 with the final at 4.20pm. Hopefully a few of you can get down to cheer them on. Good Luck Ladies!
Stroke Coaches missing
We are missing a lot of our stroke coaches. Can you please check your kit bags and around the club and return them asap – ask if you don’t know where they live.
Equipment / Boats
Also a reminder to wash the boats after every outing (as a minimum after all weekend sessions), we need to ensure all equipment is well maintained and cared for.
We are also having the next love your boat maintenance morning on the 5th July please come down and help carry out essential maintenance to keep us on the water and our fleet in tip top condition. Attached is a summary of key information from Dave over what we can do on a day to day basis to avoid maintenance issues. Once we have earned our supper we will head over to the Sun Inn for the monthly Sunday lunch from 12.30!
If you discover anything wrong with the boats please report it to fixme@bblrc.co.uk
Get Fit and Row
The current novice squad will be graduating to the intermediates at the end of the season. We are hosting an open day for the next GFAR on the 18th July. Please can you help where you can, either at the open day or volunteering at sessions throughout the 6 week course. I will add a sheet to the availability spreadsheet for volunteers and let you know when up. I will also send round a poster as soon as possible if you can forward onto friends, family and via your networks.
Web Updates
Our web mistress Helena has been doing a sterling job with the social media updates and is beginning to build on the more fixed content on the website. We have a new page to help with your social life with key dates in the rowing and social calendar to make a note of, so check it out on https://www.bblrc.co.uk/events/
Coastal Rowing
We have been invited again to try out Coastal rowing with the Herne Bay rowing club in their local regatta This is great fun although hard work (and a little scary in a small boat in the sea!) Please get in touch if you are interested in giving this a go or would like more information. The regatta is on the 18th July so a clash with our open day, but well worth attending if you want to try something different.
Save the date
Save the date for the BBL Xmas party – we are looking at the Saturday 5th December for this years event. Perfect excuse to have a few drinks after scullers head!
An update will be provided as soon as possible on inters and HM coaching when we know more, hopefully within the next couple of weeks. Until then please keep your availability up to date for races and outings and have fun!
Any questions please get in touch
Thanks
Sian
